Aster loves the thrill of the fight. He loves sparring with whoever is willing, especially with the Tyrant, and he is always looking for greater challenges.

Aster, birthname Yasheni, was born and raised in Shaaloani in a town inhabited mainly by Shetona and Tonawawta. Their community is very close, with neighbours always looking out for each other and helping each other raise their children. Aster had a very happy and carefree childhood in his home, and his older sister Eloshipya was already thirty-five years of age when Aster was born. A few years before Aster's birth, his parents had opened a saloon named the Lucky Paw.Growing up, Aster spent a lot of time at the saloon. When he reached adulthood he learned how to be a bartender to help his parents' business, however they noticed their son wasn't thriving as he should. When the Dustwatch was established in Shaaloani, Aster's parents were relieved that Aster seemed to find his calling among their ranks.But after only about a year of working with the Dustwatch, it didn't turn out to be as glamorous of a job as Aster expected, and he quit soon after. He returned to helping his parents in the saloon, opting to do whatever is needed of him. From cleaning, to picking up supplies in Tuliyollal, and occasionally bartending again.

When Aster was thirty-seven years of age, his little sister Ipyaahe was born. He doted on her from the moment he first held her in his arms, and they have a very close bond. Aster also has a close bond with his younger cousin, who was born when Aster was twenty-eight, and would often take him to Tuliyollal to visit the beach. Aster's cousin often spent time at the saloon as he did not get along much with his mother back home in Yyasulani, and Aster's parents began to regard him as their own son as Aster saw him as his little brother.Two years ago, Aster found a soul crystal, black with a weird yellow sigil on it. Before Aster could decide what to do with it, the crystal glowed, seemingly as if it was attuned to him. The crystal turned out to be a reaper soul crystal that once belonged to a Garlean reaper, and the crystal had found a will of its own and made its way to Aster. Inside was a voidsent named Elio, who had trapped himself as penance for accidentally devouring the reaper he previously had a contract with over fifty years ago. Aster struck a contract with Elio, and they now work together to keep Aster's town safe from wildlife and unsavoury characters.

When Juhani (the Warrior of Light) and Erenville heard Namikka was being robbed by bandits in Shaaloani, they found her right as Aster fought them off. Juhani noticed Aster's scythe and his summoned voidsent avatar named Elio, and after apprehending the Vulture, Juhani got to know Aster and found out he also possessed the Echo.Aster was beside himself with worry and grief when the dome appeared over Yyasulani. His younger cousin was in there, and Aster begged Juhani and the Scions to take him with them. Juhani agreed, vouching for Aster's strength, and together they breached the dome. He stayed with the Scions and Wuk Lamat for the rest of the time there, always keeping an eye out to find his little cousin. Or any of his family members living in Yyasulani.In Living Memory, Aster met an Endless Hyune woman named Eleni. She looked suspiciously like him, with the same skin tone, eye colour and hair colour. When Aster wondered how it was possible, G'raha and Krile shared with him their knowledge of reflections, assuming Eleni was Aster's reflection of this shard.After Sphene's death, Aster was scouted by Metem to join the Arcadion, to which he agreed. However, Aster set the condition that the souls of their former champions be set free. After the fight with Yaana, Aster befriended her, and when the condition of psychonekrosis is revealed to him, Aster decides to call Juhani for help. After climbing the ranks all the way to the Heavyweight tier, Aster is finally reunited with his little cousin, who now calls himself Deep Blue. After their reconciliation, Aster still struggles to accept the fact that his cousin who was once twenty-eight years younger than him is now of the same age.

In the fight against the Grand Champion, Elio noticed that the Tyrant's soul and aether were far less dense than any of the other fighters were, and that he would die if the fight continued any longer. Aster begged Elio to give him all his strength, but Elio initially refused. He was scared that he'd end up accidentally devouring Aster too. Aster convinced Elio eventually, and gave his body as a vessel to Elio, giving Aster otherworldly strength and immediately deciding the match. He knocked the Tyrant out, barely saving his life.After the death of the President and reform of the Arcadion, Aster is hailed as the new Grand Champion. He and the Tyrant enter into a romantic relationship, and a few weeks later, the Alexandrians' memories of their lost loved ones are restored. Including that of the Tyrant's previous partner, who ended up being Eleni. Aster's reflection of the Ninth. After avoiding Aster for weeks, the Tyrant and Aster have a brief falling out but they get through it. Over the next two years, they move in together and adopt three dogs. A beagle named Princess, a gallant shepherd named Duchess, and a mameshiba named Baron.A little over two years after moving in together, Aster finds a Hhetsarro baby in a dumpster. The girl was a newborn, not much older than a few days. Unsure of what to do, Aster took her home despite his discomfort and lack of knowledge with babies and children. Aster and the Tyrant intended for her to go to a proper foster family and eventually be adopted, but they ended up getting very attached to her and kept her. They officially adopted her and named her Melody Evanthe.
